Ljubljana, Slovenia, September 8, 2015. Slovenia’s men’s national team has started its preparations for the Final Round of the 2015 CEV Volleyball European Championship to take place from October 9 through 18 in Bulgaria and Italy. After claiming this year’s CEV Volleyball European League title and this way qualifying to the next edition of the FIVB World League, Slovenia’s profile and status on the international stage has significantly improved. Therefore it is not a surprise that the Slovenian team coached by volleyball star Andrea Giani will get the opportunity to play against the best teams in the world. One of them, Brazil, the #1 team on the FIVB World Ranking, is travelling to Ljubljana and will be playing two friendly matches with Slovenia.
This much anticipated volleyball show will be taking place on Wednesday night at Dvorana Stozice in Ljubljana and Slovenian volleyball fans are eager to see their players facing the silver medalists from the last Olympics and the 2014 FIVB World Championship.
Bernardo Rezende is heading to Slovenia with practically all of his best players, including Bruno Rezende, Leandro Vissotto, Ricardo dos Santos and others. Giani, who is looking forward to the match, will also have all of his best players at his disposal.
“To host one of the best teams in the world, and actually the team that has claimed the most trophies and titles in volleyball history, and a team which is placed under the guidance of one of the world’s best volleyball coaches, well, this is a special honor and privilege. It is also a great opportunity for the promotion of volleyball and of the Slovenian national team on home soil. I am happy we got the chance to test our value against one of the teams which play volleyball at the highest level. I cannot deny that I am waiting for this match with curiosity and I am really looking forward to seeing how my team and my players will perform against their extraordinary Brazilian opponents,” Slovenia’s mentor Andrea Giani said at a press conference on Monday.
“I know the best Slovenian players are playing in the best European clubs and their quality is certainly not to be questioned. Especially their technical skills are at really high level. I admit I did not meet Slovenian players so far, but I know their mentor Giani very well instead and I deeply respect him. In our volleyball family his name means a lot. I am aware of the good results the Slovenian team has claimed lately and I am looking forward to meeting this team on the court. The two matches will be a good test for my team as well,” Bernardo Rezende said.
Slovenia and Brazil will play two matches, on Wednesday and Thursday, but the second game will be played behind closed doors.
