The Czech Republic is looking to revive the glory days of the team that played under the Czechoslovakian flag. The Czechoslovakians started in international competition with a gold medal at the inaugural European Championship in 1948 and that kick-started a golden age for the team. They won two more European crowns in 1955 and 1958, as well as four silver medals. To the two gold medals at the World Championships of 1956 and 1966 they also added four silver medals. They took silver at the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games and followed that with the bronze four years later in Mexico City. Czechoslovakia has two bronze medals from the World Cup. Its successor Czech Republic’s first World League campaign earned it a surprise 4th-place finish in 2003. It also has one gold and one bronze from the European League. It is now ranked #27 in the world and #13 in Europe.
